Our reservation for our beautiful lush polo field was disappointingly moved to their less-than-lush practice polo field on Friday evening. We successfully held a NAWRA meet on the field on Saturday with some scratches, but it wasn’t terrible. I think this was because we had a little bit of rain in the morning on Saturday. However, Sunday started right out sunny. We tried to put the stopping area in a greener patch of grass to protect the dogs’ feet as best we could. However, dogs were burning their pads like crazy by the end of the second program, and we lost all but 6 whippets by the third program. This was scheduled to be a 4 program 350 oval. I made the decision to use the rule on page 15 of the rulebook regarding an unavoidable cause, and ended this meet after 3 programs. All participants were thankful.
