Nichols Family 2010
Here are a few of our favorite whippet highlights from 2010: Mojo (Nouveau’s Hoodoo Mojo) kicked off the year in February earning his AKC QC title. Rico (Whimsy’s Play Me A Tune) followed in his footsteps the same weekend earning his AKC JC title.
In April, we attended our first AWC National in Arizona. We started with a bang! Mojo took 2nd place at the AKC Lure Coursing Trial. And Rico (Whimsy’s Play Me A Tune) followed him up by placing in his American Bred Conformation Class. We came home from National with two beautiful trophy plates and a new addition to the family….”V”! “V” (Arwen Glamour You) was bred by Lisande Donohoe of Arwen Whippets from Fairbanks, Alaska. We feel so lucky that Lisande has trusted us with her pick of the litter; as a bonus she has the loveliest temperament. A true ambassador of the breed. We can hardly wait to see what the future holds for this young girl!
In June; “V” wins her 6-9 month sweeps class at 8 months at the Clackamas Kennel Club with 38 bitch puppies entered!
In August, at 9 months old “V” goes Reserve Winners Bitch to a 5 point major at the Cook Inlet Kennel club show.
September was a very exciting weekend for Rico, “V” and Hannah. Rico won Winners Dog and Best of Winners both days of the Wenatchee Kennel Club show and Hannah showed him in juniors the same weekend and brought home Best Junior in Show both days. “V” earned her first AKC points bringing home Winners Bitch at 11 months the same weekend. It was an exciting weekend to say the least!
In October, Mojo win’s Best of Breed at the NWRRC ASFA Lure Coursing trial giving him all of his placements for his ASFA FC title he just needs to earn three more points to be finished!
Hannah and Rico have become quite the Junior Handler team; Hannah has been awarded Best Junior Handler in show four times in 2010 – pretty exciting to earn as a 10 year old! These two have also earned 12 first place wins in Open Junior which qualified them for invitations to Eukanuba and Westminster. Hannah finished the year as AKC’s #2 Junior Handler showing whippets.
Our trip to Eukanuba was a once in a lifetime experience. Rico and Hannah traveled like rock stars and were able to keep up with the whirl wind weekend. We traveled to Long Beach a few days early to participate in the pre-shows. The first day of showing Hannah and Rico placed in Juniors and in the Open Dog class. On the second day Hannah showed Rico and won the Open Dog class and took Reserve Winners Dog against several top professional handlers and lovely dogs. What a thrill! At Eukanuba’s National Championship Junior Invitational there were 155 juniors entered; according to AKC it was one of their largest entries in history. Hannah and Rico had a stellar performance and would have made everyone at the WWWA proud!
So we finished 2010 blessed with many successes, good health and no major injuries. Cheers! The Nichols
