June/July race practice schedule

JULY 9 UPDATE: The over whelming response has been that most of you will be skipping practice this Saturday July 11 due to the kennel cough issue.  Therefore, practice has been cancelled. After polling everyone and checking out the race meets, lure trials and show schedules, I came up with the following schedule for June and July.

Sunday, 7 June Saturday, 13 June Sunday, 5 July Rescheduled to Sunday, 12 July Saturday, 11 July - CANCELLED Sunday, 19 July

The usual time of 11:00 with set-up at 10:30.  We will be checking the Frohning’s fields pretty closely now.  If the grass is much too tall on the Thursday before a practice and mowing isn’t going to happen by practice, I will let everybody know as quickly as possible.  The RR folk don’t mind running thru tall grass but it’s next to impossible for whippet youngsters.  David and I have checked out two of the schools in Snohomish this last week and one athletic park but they aren’t workable.  There is a park just north and east of Arlington that may work out for straights.  I will check with parks person to see if we can give it a go.  All ideas will be entertained as long as it doesn’t take us a lifetime to drive there <g>!

We will offer certs periodically this summer and fall, but they will be predicated upon length of grass.

We’re also going to have a couple of afternoon, during the week practices to help out a couple of our whippet owners who are entering the show and go in Canada, 5 July.

Thursday, 25 June Tuesday, 30 June CANCELLED

Both of these practices will start at 3:00 and end whenever and will be at the Frohnings farm if the grass length is conducive to a good practice.  If the grass is too long, there is a possibility of a small field near Stanwood that we can use.  It is kept mowed and should be good for shorter focus runs.  We will check the Frohning fields the day prior to practice and let everybody know if there is a change of location.

Practice is on for Thursday at 3:00.  It will be at the field behind the barn next to the Fish and Wildlife area.  But, please don't park at the Fish and Wildlife parking area as it is by permit only.  Directions as follows:
Either north from Duvall or south from Monroe, take the 203rd St. SE exit (goes west).  You will be driving thru the reformatory farms.  At the stop sign, turn right on Tualco Rd.  Turn left on Tualco Loop Rd.  The Frohning farm is the first house on the left.  Take the gravel road just past the house (left turn) and turn in behind the barn.  Please do not drive or park on the grass.  If you are coming from the north on Tualco Loop Rd. look for the tractor show sign in the yard and turn right on the gravel road.  Proceed to the barn.  Remember, there are no porta potties available.
We will not be bringing boxes as this is a lure coursing focus practice.
A reminder for those of you who are interested in and are ready for full up racing or need the use of the big boxes - there will be oval practice with the full up boxes at the Sowards (Goldendale) on the 4th and a race meet on the 5th.   Jo has also said that she can accomodate straight practices with the big boxes too.
